The stylobate.
The stylobate measures 69.51 by 30.86 metres and is the three-step base on which the Parthenon stands. The stylobate might look simple and dull at first sight, but it shows the incredible subtlety of the temple. Normally straight lines do not look straight anymore when they become too long. The architects corrected these distortions, which are naturally made by the human eye, by curving the stylobate upward toward the center of the colonnades on each side of the temple.
